I captured photos of things we see everyday and portrayed them in an abstract way. During the Covid-19 lockdown, I took photos around my neighborhood of Fresh Meadows, Queens. Spring had come, flowers were blooming and most days the sunsets were amazingly beautiful. From inside the house, I noticed how the sunlight would hit certain objects and it made me appreciate the beauty in the little things around me.
As the lockdown was slowly being lifted, I ventured out again to capture the quietness and beauty of the city.
Despite the challenges the pandemic brought on, it has broadened my perspective to the beauty in everyday objects I may not have discovered otherwise.
These images are placed in chronological order from when the project had initially started in January, during, and the present time. The photos are layered with the raw image (the entire surrounding) and a smaller colored image (the abstract perspective). Without the raw image, you wouldn’t know what or where the photo was taken. The background can be portrayed as a wish to be outside in the open and the smaller colored area would show the restrictions of not being able to go about our daily lives. There is one image, showing the smaller area as black and white, revealing the turning point of when the lockdown was slowly being lifted and businesses started to reopen. These images are supposed to make one’s mind wonder, wander, and appreciate the little things surrounding us in everyday life that we may be too busy to admire.
This was a grant funded project by the Team Galaxy Creators Program Samsung
